Eating Healthy at Olive Garden

Living a healthy lifestyle does not mean that you can never eat out, again; it means quite the opposite, actually! There is nothing healthy about deprivation. Moderation is where it's at.

Deprivation makes me unhappy; been there, done that and I am not a fan. Depriving myself only lead to feelings of failure and an eventual binge on what I was missing.

Last night, my husband and I went out to dinner with his parents at Olive Garden. It was really nice to meet up with them over dinner after a long day at the office. My mother-in-law and I each had a glass of the Roscato. They ordered an appetizer for the table, and I had a few pieces of calamari from that. I had one bread stick, a bit of salad and ate about 3/4 of my entree; seafood portofino.

We were all full when we left Olive Garden. If you ever leave hungry from that place, something may be wrong and I would advise you get yourself checked immediately.

On a more serious note, I am completely happy with my decisions last night at dinner. I didn't feel deprived, at all. I planned ahead and balanced my meals throughout the day to accommodate a larger than normal dinner. I also planned ahead by checking Olive Garden's menu online, to help me decide on a satisfying yet sensible choice for dinner.

With a little prep work, I think you may find ways to eat healthy at most of your favorite restaurants!

What is your favorite dish at Olive Garden?
If you don't care for Olive Garden or Italian food, what is your favorite restaurant?

  1. I LOVE Olive Garden! I am totally satsified with soup, salad and breaksticks when I go and rarely try anything else. Im not a big "Italian" eater but I have had their white sauce items and like those moreso than their red sauce items. I love their Chicken Gnocki soup but I dont want to see how many calories are in it!!! haha

  2. Yummm I love Olive Garden. I got some gift cards to there from Christmas which I plan to use at some point this month. My absolutely favorite (that they don't carry anymore, wahh!) was the parmesan crusted steak. It was sooo delicious. I could eat their salad every day I think though!

  3. I've never had Olive Garden! I'm a bit afraid that I'd go overboard though. I have a hard time eating only half or part of a meal. Although I suppose I could always ask for half of it to be boxed up right away. (Sounds like I just solved my own problem! hah!)

Anyways, your meal sounds delicious! My favourite italian foods is anything with Alfredo!! *Drools*
