Super Short Run and 25 by 25 List

I think that I may have completed the shortest run in the world last night, but before I get to that, I want to start talking about my 25 by 25 list. Remember that list? In case you don't remember, I will remind you because I am nice like that.

On the eve of my 24th birthday, I decided to make a list of 25 things that I would like to accomplish before I turn 25 years old. My 25th birthday is on February 4, 2013. Here's the list, in which I refer to as my "25 by 25" list:

1. Try 25 new recipes (25/25 done)
2. Complete a 5K
3. Try 3 new bike/walking trails (3/3 done)
4. Try tofu for the first time
5. Read 5 books regarding healthy living (2/5 done)
6. Post 5 video blog recipes (1/5 done)
7. Reach "Onederland"
8. Go on 12 dates with my husband
9. Treat myself with a professional massage
10. Travel out of state 3 times
11. Crochet a blanket
12. Cook something for our mothers, "just because"
13. Host a bonfire with friends
14. Invite my father-in-law over for dinner 5 times
15. Host a picnic with family
16. Search for beach glass at the lake
17. Go canoeing
18. Swing dance in Cleveland
19. Shop at a whole foods market
20. Try a new fruit or vegetable
21. Try a new workout
22. Complete a home project
23. Take our dog on 10 walks and blog about them (7/10 done)
24. Try a new restaurant
25. Pay off a credit card ($1,000)

With only a month left to complete my list, I am reviewing what is left and making plans. There are some things I might not complete, and some that I still think that I can. Unfortunately, one item I know for sure I will not be reaching; my goal of entering "onederland" before I turn 25.

As of January 1, 2013, I weighed in at 239 lbs. Losing weight slowly has been what I am comfortable with, so there is no way I would even attempt to get down to 199 lbs. before February 4th. Losing that much that quick isn't healthy for anyone, not to mention; my body just doesn't work like that! I accept that; I accept me. I am happy with maintaining my weight loss throughout the year of 2012 and I am ready to start losing, again in 2013.

The month of January will be partly dedicated to completing as much as possible on my 25 by 25 list. I have had a really great time crossing items off of my list so far this year. I am excited to see what else I can accomplish before I turn 25! Either way, totally worth it.

Me, last night, before my super short run.

So, last night I was itching to use my Forerunner 410 for the second time. If I had my way, I would use it every day. Unfortunately, I live in northern Pennsylvania, where the roads are covered in snow and the temperature is below freezing (22 degrees to be exact). Call me crazy, but I just had to run.

I was a little scared to run in the snow. Actually, I was more afraid to run on the roads that were mostly cleared but covered in ice. I drove around and found a snow covered road and decided to take it slow. I wore five layers of shirts, yoga pants and some really neat earmuffs my mother-in-law got me for Christmas. I was still cold but very determined. It wasn't until I was ready to start my run when I realized that I didn't bring my gloves. I didn't care at first; I was all ready to go and nothing was going to stop me. My poor hands.


I only got two intervals of 2 minute runs in before I decided to call it quits. My hands were frozen, red and numb. I didn't want to risk frostbite so I decided a little run is better than no run at all and made my way back to the car.

Dinner from last night.
When I got home, I made myself a healthy dinner. Chicken with minced garlic, green peppers, onions and fresh mushrooms. I seasoned the dish with garlic salt and soy sauce. It was a good combination and since I loaded up on the veggies, it was very filling!

What is your favorite veggie?
- I don't know if I could choose, myself. I love green beans, green peppers, corn and mushrooms (if they count).

  1. Good Job Kay! Your dinner looks yummy but I would have put broccoli in with it... fresh broccoli slightly steamed is my favorite with green peppers, onions and mushrooms. YUM!

  2. A Garmin is pretty high on my list of things I want to get this year! Looks pretty cool!

    I giggled when you said how cold you where! We haven't seen temperatures that warm for probably over a month. I've seen people here running at -13F (-25C). Then again, I do live just north of central Alberta! I think that 22F sounds devine! Funny how temperature is relative, hey?

    My favourite veggies would be: Peppers, corn, mushrooms, broccoli, and spinach!

  4. Your stir-fry look yummy to say the least! Mmmm! Good job at your running. My favorite veggies for a stir-fry would be exactly what you chose. I love alot of veggies cooked rather than raw. I took a ten minute walk outside today with it being 18 degrees, here in West Central MN! It felt good after hovering zero for the high for several days and then with wind!

  5. Brrrr that's cold!! We are expecting to be back up in the 50's next week and I am sooo ready for that!! Broccoli is definitely my favorite, yum! and artichoke!
