You're Already Amazing

Like I said sometime earlier this week, I finished book number 4 of 5 as part of my 25 by 25 list! The book that I choose to read was "You're Already Amazing" by Holley Gerth.

Here are some of my favorite quotes from the book:

You don't need to be perfect because you are perfectly loved by God.

We are to love people but we are only asked to please God.

We don't have to make everyone happy, and if we don't have to make everyone happy, then we don't have to be perfect!

Control can be traced back to one emotion; fear. We want to feel safe. And the only way to feel safe is to know what will happen.

Controlling people don't necessarily enjoy telling other people what to do; some people try merely to control themselves. Some types of self control are good. When people set unrealistic expectations for themselves, however, this causes anxiety, stress and defeat. Don't do this to yourself!

If there is a part of you that feels broken, don't spend all of your energy trying to make it perfect. If you think about it, God took what was perfect, his Son, and made him broken so that you could be whole. God can use your brokenness in ways you may have never expected.

- Perfectionism vs. Growth -

Perfectionism is all or nothing.
Growth is little by little.
Perfectionism is all about the goal.
Growth is about the journey.
Perfectionism is all about outward appearance.
Growth is about what's happening on the inside.
Perfectionism is about what we do.
Growth is about who we're becoming.

I am definitely going to start focusing more on growth rather than being perfect in my goals.
