The Culprit

It's Wednesday, already? Hey, I'm not complaining!

I believe I figured out the culprit of this not-losing-weight deal I've got going on right now. The culprit being night time snacking. Wah wah.

Yesterday, I ate well all throughout the day. I had mini egg cups for breakfast, cheese and crackers as a snack, the most delicious salad (pictured above) for lunch and an awesome dinner (pictured below).

I eat well all throughout the day, I even work out, but once my 5 month old daughter goes to sleep, I head for the kitchen and snack until it's time for me to go to bed.

I feel like I night snack because I'm tired. Is that even a thing? Well, I guess it is a thing for me.

There's a time in the day when it's too early to go to bed but too late for much else. I have always found comfort in food, so it's becoming my way to relax. That's not a good habit to have; I broke myself of this habit before and I can do it again.

I'd like to say the first step to fixing the problem is identifying the problem. Night snacking is definitely the problem. Now it's time to work toward a solution!

Readers, do any of you struggle with night time snacking? What are some ways you have found help you to stay out of the kitchen at night?

  1. Yes! I too used to struggle with this as well. When I am bored, tired, etc...I find myself wanting to snack. Now what I've been doing is having my normal healthy dinner and then if I find myself wanting a snack I have a chocolate protein shake with a TB of PB mixed in, it tastes like a peanut butter cup. Or I drink some lemon water or have some gum. Its been 2 weeks and so far so good. You can do it too! Your meals lately have been on point! They look great--Melissa

  2. I do the exact same thing! After my toddler goes to bed at 8, its the only "me" time of the day. So I relax with food! I need to change it too!

  4. I don't keep a ton of my go-to snack foods in the house for this very reason! Haha. Occasionally I'll have ice cream at night, if I've planned for it, but most nights I have 1 or 2 Dove Dark Chocolate Promises and that's very satisfying for me. I don't think there's anything wrong with having a night time snack, but just be aware of what you're having. Also, if my husband is working late, I'll wait and eat dinner around 8:30, after the kids are in bed (I'll have a light snack while they're eating). After that, I definitely don't want anything else to eat.

    1. Yes -- I definitely need to get a treat that I won't binge on but will satisfy that craving at night.

  5. Just have another healthy light snack with you. Maybe some nuts and almond or fruit smoothie will do. Don't subject yourself into eating sweets or binge eating during night snack. It will really ruin our weight loss goals.
