Family Trail Walking

Nick took off work yesterday and so we decided to make the most of our day together.

Yesterday, Nick and I took Piper to an old trail that we use to bike and walk on back when it was just the two of us. It was so nice to be back on the trail, especially now that we have Piper with us.

While on the trail with Nick and Piper, I had a moment when I could literally feel my heart swell with love and happiness. It was when I remembered a conversation I had with Nick a few years ago on that same trail. I remembered we were talking about how nice it would be to "one day" visit the trail with our future child. That day has come and it was a beautiful day!

We walked for about a mile until we came upon a gazebo. That's where we decided to camp out for a picnic lunch. For lunch, I packed some mandarin oranges, green beans and turkey for Piper. Nick and I both had a ham and swiss sandwich.

We all sat on a blanket in the gazebo. With us being surrounded by the sounds of the outdoors, I'd have to say this was the most peaceful lunch I think we could have with a toddler. To be honest though, most meals are peaceful when there's food in front of Piper. She loves food just as much as we do!

After the lunch, we walked another mile. During that mile, we were able to see a creek with fast running water beside the trail. That was Piper's favorite part of the trail. She kept pointing and saying "fish". We took a couple breaks to enjoy the sound and sight of the water flowing by.

After walking two miles, we decided it was a good time to turn around. Piper was all smiles the entire walk. She would occasionally chime in to our conversation with random baby babble and would be found pointing at birds along the path.

I was very surprised to find that we were on the trail for two hours (I burned 700 calories!). Piper was so good for the entire walk and we all had the best time! If anything, Piper wanted to be pushed around for even longer. Maybe next time!

I am glad that Piper so easily enjoys the same things that Nick and I enjoy. Trail walks are definitely a family favorite.

After the trail walk, we went to a frozen custard shop nearby. Piper was only 5 months old when she first tried the frozen custard at this shop. I can honestly say that at 15 months, she still loves their frozen custard.

All in all, I think it's safe to say that we owned Monday.
