"6 Reasons Why" Follow-Up

As you may know, my HealthyWage challenge ended last week. Not only did I reach my 6% goal, my husband reached his goal, too! {YAY!}

It will take a couple weeks before we find out how much money we won from this special "Jackpot Challenge" and, that's just fine! In the meantime, I'm relishing in the real reward: a full 15 pounds lost!

Whenever I was gearing up for my HealthyWage challenge, I remember posting 6 Reasons Why I Want to Lose 6% of my body weight. Now that I've lost the 6% of my body weight, I figured it would be a good thing for me to reflect back on those 6 Reasons.

Here are the 6 Reasons Why I Want to Lose 6% that I listed back in December before my HealthyWage challenge began:

1. I can't afford to lose my $60 bet {and I'm looking forward to the possibility of winning even more money by splitting the Jackpot with my team when we reach our 6% goal!}
During the final weeks, the money was the biggest motivator. Especially for my husband. He was cutting it close, and he kept telling me each day that he would feel horrible if he lost this challenge for us and all of that money {$120 combined}. The heat was on! It really gave him the extra motivation he needed to lose his 6%!
2. I want to feel lighter and have more energy. The extra weight I am carrying around can be suffocating at times. I feel it weighing me down, wearing on my joints and smothering my energy level.
It's really amazing how 15 pounds makes such a difference in how you feel. Now that I've lost the weight, I do feel lighter and have more energy! My knees don't hurt chronically and I feel smaller!
3. I want to reduce my risk for cancer, heart disease, and other scary ailments that can be linked to obesity. As I'm approaching age 29, I am starting to think more and more about my vitality every day.
I'm 29 now, and I am so glad that I'm not waiting any longer to lose this weight. 15 pounds makes a difference, and the more I lose, the more of a difference it will make!
4. I don't want my excess weight to slow me down or limit me from doing things with my daughter. {I want to ride all the rides at the amusement parks with her, I want her to have more of my lap to sit on when we snuggle, I want to be able to comfortably get down onto and up from the floor with her, etc.}
I have been having such an easier time playing with Piper on the floor, and just doing more things with her already. Losing this weight has been freeing!
5. I want to regain the rest my wardrobe! I had a really nice wardrobe that I loved, and while I technically still fit into the clothes I'm referring to, I don't wear them often because they don't fit like they use to; they are much tighter than before. I want to fit into more of the clothes in my closet.
This was really exciting for me! I have regained about half of my wardrobe and it feels so good to be wearing the clothes I have wanted to fit back into for so long. A very big reward, here!
6. I want to feel the empowerment of success and prove it to myself that I can do it, again. I've lost the weight before becoming pregnant with Piper and, while it is more difficult to lose the weight as a mother, I want to show myself that I can do it. By focusing more on myself these next three months, my entire family will reap the reward with a healthier mama and wife.
YES! I feel it! I feel the empowerment of my success and I feel so proud of myself, and my husband, for reaching our goal!
I am so glad that I took the time to search for a few reasons why I wanted to lose the weight; it really helped me to focus on what was important to me to continue on throughout the challenge. Looking back now is just the icing on top of the cake! It not only validated all of my hard work, but it is giving me motivation to make a new list with a new goal, soon! 


  1. You know...I've always put off doing a diet bet or anything like that because money is so tight....maybe I should do it because I would work hard to not lose my money!!!!!
