12 Weeks Postpartum | Baby #2

12 weeks. I can't believe it's been 12 weeks. I am 12 weeks postpartum today!

I feel a little uneasy that the first thing I want to talk about now that I'm 12 weeks postpartum is my weight. However, it's where my mind is at and so I'm going to share. I'm sure I am not the only one who thinks about their weight at this stage of their postpartum journey. In that case, you know you are not alone.

Since this is my second child, I knew to not give myself any expectations for weight-loss. Especially not in the first few months. As I suspected, I naturally lost a lot of weight right away after having my baby and then, when I stopped breastfeeding earlier this month, the weight started coming back.

This is exactly what happened during my postpartum season with Piper, my first baby (and now 6 year old). I am not quite sure why my body goes in to "storage" mode around this time, if you will, but it is okay. My body has been through a lot, and it is still going through a lot as it adjusts to it's new normal. I shared this image on Instagram yesterday and it brought me a sense of peace.

I really wish I wasn't thinking about my weight right now, but I think it's natural, especially when you are overweight to begin with. I am hoping to keep a healthy perspective of it all this time around. Realistic goal setting is a big part of that and I'll be talking more about my goals, soon. Until then, use this post as a reminder to give yourself grace wherever you are at and, know that you are not alone.

  1. Ugh I know. I am not due until the end of June but I already both dread and look forward to getting back to "normal"

  2. I understand how you feel, Jen! It's a slower process than I'd personally like it to be. Very excited for you though and your precious June arrival!
