Second Trimester: Weeks 24-27

Right now, I am 28 weeks pregnant! I am in my third trimester with my sweet little girl.

I can honestly say that my second trimester was amazing! My first trimester was kind of hard with nausea and fatigue but my second trimester had barely any of that! My second trimester was filled with joy and love. I really know why they call it the "honeymoon phase" of pregnancy. It was magical.

Week 27
I am so thankful that I've made it this far with barely any issues. This little girl is loved more and more each day! Below is a recap of weeks 24-27.

Week 24:
Finishing up my battle with acute bronchitis. Thankful that it didn't come with a high fever and that it required no medication for me to get better. I got better from a lot of rest, fluids and patience. The entire week I was able to feel my little girl wiggle all around as I rested on the couch. We spent a lot of quality time together this week!

Week 25:
This was such an exciting week, and quite possibly my favorite week of pregnancy! We registered for our baby shower and got our crib set up in the nursery! I can't keep myself out of the nursery this week. I go in and look at the crib every morning and every night before I go to bed. My husband and I catch each other doing this often and we just laugh. It is so heart warming to know that we are feeling the same excitement and love for this baby girl!

Week 27

Week 26:
Good week overall. Flipping from side to side in the middle of the night is getting harder. I can only sleep on each side for about an hour before needing to flip because of sore hips.
I experienced my first bout of Braxton Hicks contractions this week, as well. Or so I think. Not painful, just uncomfortable for a little while one day this week.
At the end of this week, we got some maternity photos done. My mom took the photos for us. That was a special day, and I love each photo we got!

Week 27

Week 27:
This was a magical week! Another one of my favorite weeks!
I spotted the first kicks from the outside at the beginning of this week and I had my first baby shower at the end of this week! It was so special! I can honestly say the shower was perfect.
On a funny note, I also woke up at 2 a.m. one morning this week, craving scalloped potatoes. I layed in bed for way too long just thinking about eating the potatoes my mom use to make.

Week 27 - Baby Shower

Stay tuned for more updates as the weeks go on!

My First Baby Shower

Yesterday was my first baby shower. It was hosted by my mom and nana. It was a dream come true!

My mom wanted the shower to be how I wanted it, so she let me help decorate and plan with her. I couldn't be happier with how the day went. We were literally surrounded by people that we love, and it was just such an amazing experience!

My nana made ham salad and chicken salad croissants with rosa marina fruit salad on the side. My mom made a salad similar to Olive Garden's salad and got us a cake. All of the food was great!

My mom and I.

My nana and I.

My sister and I.
Some candids...

My husband and I are so grateful for the love and support from our family and friends. Now that we have received these gifts that are filling her nursery, we really just can't wait to meet our baby girl!

Looking Forward To Some Things

I have been filled with this enormous feeling of joy and contentment lately. I am 27 weeks pregnant and my baby girl already makes me smile, daily.

Whenever I have a moment of feeling stressed, I just touch my tummy, take a deep breath, and smile. Whenever I feel her move around, I smile. Whenever I think about my husband holding her, I smile. Whenever I think about what her first cry will sound like, I smile. She is so wonderful, she already makes my life fuller; she brings me such hope and many dreams of our future.

This week, I had and have so much to look forward to!

  • Last night, a couple of my friends came over to help with decorations for my baby shower this upcoming weekend. We had a great little craft night, together! With my husband being in night class two nights a week, I have been having a lot of girl time lately. I am convinced that girl time is just good for the soul.

  • I have been fitting in more fruits and vegetables into my diet this week! It makes me feel good to feed her well. I have been having a lot of berry smoothies, fresh salads and wraps this week!

  • I am looking forward to Friday night. We are going to be setting up for my baby shower, and we will be ordering pizza. Double greatness.

  • I am looking forward to my first baby shower on Saturday! My mom and grandma are throwing this shower for me. This thought also makes me smile, and want to shed a tear of joy or two. I have a feeling this pregnant momma is going to be very emotional come Saturday!

What are you looking forward to this week?

My Mom Has Cancer

My mom has cancer.

I typed it, and it still doesn't seem real.

Mostly, I don't think that it seems real because cancer and my mom just don't belong in the same sentence. And, in my heart, I know that sentence will be changing. At some point, hopefully sooner than later, that sentence will be changing to "My mom had cancer, and beat it."

She has surgery to remove the melanoma and possibly some lymph nodes on November 6th. Due to the nature of the melanoma, it is quite possible that the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes. I think I understand her right in that they are removing the lymph nodes regardless. The melanoma was .95 cm, and melanoma is known to spread at 1 cm. Her melanoma was only .5 cm away. I pray it has been caught in time.

I am sharing this with you because I am a true believer that prayer is powerful. The more people that know about my mom's situation, the more people that can pray for her. So, if you're a prayful person, please say a prayer for my mom. Please pray that the cancer hasn't spread, and that she will be cancer free after this surgery.

On a side note, I wanted to also mention that my blog updates will be fluctuating from here on out until after the delivery of my baby girl in January. I just can't promise daily updates right now, but I do promise updates from time to time.

Thanks for sticking with me.

Fall is Treating Me Well

Sorry that I've been MIA for a few days. It's been busy times for us!

I am taking advantage of the energy that my second trimester is giving me, while I have it. I have been reconnecting with friends and getting out and about more, in general. In my first trimester, I felt like a hermit. Now that I'm coming up on my third trimester, I feel like I need to get out as much as I can before my energy dips down again! To be in my second trimester during fall has been a wonderful thing!

This weekend, we went to my husband's uncle's wedding. It was a really good time and a beautiful day for a wedding! The leaves are changing and the sun was out. We have been blessed with a great fall, so far.

Since it's fall, our garden is just about done producing. Yesterday, we picked the last of our jalapenos and the only orange pumpkin from our garden. I have wonderful plans for those jalapenos, and I hope to share the results with you very soon!

On Friday night, my mom and I got together and started making some crafts for the baby shower. My first baby shower is only a couple weeks away. I just can't believe it! My husband and I are both so excited! I am going to have him at the shower with me, and I'm happy to be able to share the baby shower experience with him. I think he'll really enjoy it!

Tonight, my sister is coming over to help me with the crafts and my friend will be helping me tomorrow, too.

What did you do this weekend?
Is fall treating you well?

Second Trimester: Weeks 19 - 23

I am currently in week 25 of my pregnancy and I just couldn't feel more love and joy about our journey so far. I have been keeping notes of my pregnancy each week. Today I'd like to share with you my notes from weeks 19 through 23.

Week 22

Week 19:
Feeling good for the most part! A little bit of aches and pains. I have experienced the joy of the baby bouncing on my bladder as I walk. Now I understand the wobble pregnant ladies can sometimes have in their walk! I am loving the feeling of my baby kick (this week, she was kicking mostly after I would eat a bowl of chili for lunch!)

Week 22

Week 20:
What an exciting, heart-filling week! We had our gender revealing ultrasound this week. During the sonogram, we had the ultrasound tech write the gender down on a piece of paper. We waited to open the paper until after the appointment, that way we could find out when it was just my husband and I together. We opened the paper before we went out to dinner at the Texas Roadhouse. We had a lot to talk about during dinner! It was the happiest dinner I've ever had in my life. We were both so excited, happy and humbled.

Week 22 (ready for our diaper party!)

Week 21:
I am convinced that my baby girl is a genius. She is so smart! She knows that if she kicks my bladder enough, I'll empty it and give her more room. Once I empty my bladder, she's at rest again. I am already noticing a little personality just from her movements!

Week 22

Week 22:
This week, I finally feel like my baby bump has popped out a little! The the baby seems to be most active when I lay down for bed at night. Each night, my husband will rest his hand on my belly as we lay there, that way he can feel her move around. He says that it feels really light, but I can feel it distinctively inside. Sometimes it feels like a bowling ball on my bladder when I walk. I am feeling a lot more movement this week, and I'm loving it!

Week 23

Week 23:
We had another sonogram this week! She is 100% definitely a girl. We got to see it for ourselves this time! She was really active during this sonogram, as usual. The ultrasound techs always comment on how busy she is in there. She still has some room to wiggle and flip around. My husband called her his little jitter bug. We watched her flap her hands and her jaw. My husband said it looked like she was trying to blow bubbles! Toward the end of this week, I started to get really sick. I had to go to the ER and was diagnosed with acute bronchitis.

Thankfully, I'm feeling all better now. I'll post another update again before my third trimester begins!

Feeling Reborn

It's Monday. My bronchitis is gone and I feel reborn. Hallelujah!

My husband and I had a really busy and exciting weekend. We were go, go, go from dawn to dusk, and even a little after dusk, too. Just in case you missed it, I shared our experience from registering for the baby showers on Saturday and a little bit of information about our new crib in the post from yesterday.

On Sunday, we tried out a new church. Grace Church shares their sermons online, so I am familiar with their message and have watched recordings of past services before. This was our first time attending church at Grace and we really enjoyed it! We joined my mom, step dad, sister and little brother at service on Sunday. While we attended the service, my little brother participated in the Grace Kids program. My husband and I got to look around a bit while we picked him up from the kids program after service, and we were really impressed with their program for the kids. This is going to be important to us for obvious reasons. We want to find a church to call our home church before our daughter is born in January, and we want there to be a good program for children, too. Grace Church has definitely exceeded my expectations in that department, which is a department that is becoming increasingly important to us. We can't wait to attend again next week!

After church, my husband and I had lunch together at Subway. We went grocery shopping after that. I made sure to get a lot of fruit to last the week. My goal for this week is to reach for the fruit before the chips when it comes to snacking. I am trying to eat healthier snacks throughout the day. Mostly my snacks for this week include hard boiled eggs, strawberries, oranges, apples, bananas, and cheese sticks. Can you tell I'm eating for two?

After we got our groceries put away, we went to visit my friend. We spent a couple hours catching up, and had a good time together! My husband dropped me off at home after that, so I could make chili while he ran an errand of his own.

It was a cold weekend, so chili definitely hit the spot. After dinner, my in-laws stopped by to see the crib all set up in the nursery. I really can't wait to share pictures of the nursery with you all, once it's finished. The nursery is really coming together and I am just so in love with the room!

We had to cut our visit with my in-laws short because we got a call from my friend that her furnace wasn't working. It just so happens my husband is also Mr. Fix It so we stopped back over there and he had it running again within an hour. We got home a little before 9 p.m. and then it was off to bed for this tired momma.

How was your weekend?
Who else made chili this weekend?
How do you like to spend your Sundays?

We Have a Crib

Yesterday, I pretty much did an 8 hour shift at Babies R Us. And no, I don't work there.

My husband, my mom and I arrived at Babies R' Us when they opened yesterday morning. We registered for our baby showers until about lunchtime. We ate at Chick Fil A for lunch, which satisfied a craving I have been having for a while! Their chicken is just so good.

After lunch, we went to Target, which is next door to Babies R' Us. We didn't register for as many items at Target because their selection just isn't as plentiful.

After we finished registering at Target, we went back to Babies R' Us to look at cribs. My husband and I had spent our Friday night cuddled up on the couch together, researching cribs. From our research, we knew which crib we wanted, we just had to find it in the store. Thankfully, we found the crib we had our hearts set on and luckily there was only one of these cribs left in the store. We had to get the floor model because they were no longer selling this style of crib. My mother-in-law met us at the store and bought us the floor model so we could get the crib before it was gone! Since it was the floor model, we ended us getting a really good deal on the crib of our dreams. It just couldn't have worked out any better for us all!

As an additional bonus, the crib was already put together. This really was great because the floor model did not come with instructions on how to set the crib up. My husband just took a few pieces off of the crib to make it fit through the door, and then put it back together upstairs; no instructions needed.

Now that the crib is set up in the nursery, I just can't stay out of there. I was sitting on the floor last night, just folding clothes, staring at the crib, smiling and imagining our little girl sleeping there. Then, I had dreams about her sleeping in the crib last night. She was a really good sleeper in my dreams, so my fingers are crossed for the real deal.

Registering for our baby showers, and getting the crib, has made this the best weekend ever! I am just so excited to meet our little girl, and I can't wait show her all of my love.

Time to Register for Baby Shower

With my first baby shower being only 3 weeks away and the invitations already been sent out, I am kind of running behind on registering for the shower. My husband and I seemed to have something going on each weekend and the only weekend we had free to register, I was down with bronchitis. So, God willing, we are planning on registering for the baby this weekend.

My husband and I are going to be registering for our baby girl at Babies R' Us and Target. Maybe even at Baby Depot if we aren't completely worn out from the first two stores. Mind you, I'm reserving both Saturday and Sunday for registering, so I think we should have enough time to get it all done. We are blessed with three moms who each want to throw us a shower, so we are going to try to register for a lot of items so there will be plenty for people to choose from.

The first time we started looking at strollers and car seats, I nearly had an anxiety attack right there in the store. It's a little overwhelming, and I'm glad that I got my anxiety attack out of the way. I am planning on keeping my stress level low and the fun level high for when we register this weekend.

This weekend is all about this baby girl!

Moms -- please help me out! What is one thing (or more) that I should definitely register for this weekend?

October Goals and Back to Work

It's my first day back to work while I continue to recover from acute bronchitis. I am happy to say that I have made it to lunch!

I'm not going to lie. My body was confused about this dry air in the office, which led to a morning full of cough attacks. Prior to coming back to work, I had been living next to a steam humidifier; combine that with about 3 steam showers a day and it's safe to say that my lungs are missing the comforts of home.

One comfort that I brought with me to work is Italian wedding soup for lunch. This soup came from a can, and it's quite honestly the most wonderful part of my day so far.

Actually, my hot tea with honey this morning wasn't so bad, either.

Now that I'm feeling better (read: able to move around without wanting to die), I have decided that it's time to start being more conscious about eating better, too.

October Goal #1: Be more conscious about what I'm putting into my mouth.

I've made it to the 6th month of my pregnancy (pause for applause) and I have gained about 10 pounds, so far. I don't remember exactly what my doctor said about how much weight was okay for me to gain, but I feel like I am doing okay.

The important thing that I want to focus on is the quality of food I'm eating. Peanut butter toast and Gatorade pretty much got me through the past 5 days, now it's time to put a little more than carbs and peanut butter into my system.

I also want to make sure that I stay active, and stretch a lot this month. Baby steps are about to be a literal thing in my life. I am going to take it all very slow. Nothing too crazy, just adding more walks (and maybe yoga) into my life.

October Goal #2: Stay active.

And as always, water is my BFFL (best friend for life) so I'm going to make sure to drink about 120 ounces of water a day.

October Goal #3: Drink 120 ounces of water/day.

Do you have any goals for the month of October?
