New Rhythm and Routines

It’s the first day of September, and the second week of school for our girls. Yesterday felt a whole lot better than any of the days last week. Last week was a doozy because none of us were used to waking up that early (5:30 am) and we were all quite exhausted by the end of the day.

Monday morning this week went so much better. It had a little bit more of a flow to it, and I didn’t feel like I was just pushing through. Thank the Lord!

After school drop off in the mornings, I have gotten into the routine of driving straight to a local park and going for a 20 minute walk. I know this is only the second week of school, but I haven’t missed a day yet and I’m pretty excited about that!

It has been so nice to start the day with a quiet walk. Right now, I am using that time to listen to a book called “Gods At War” by Kyle Idleman during my walks. It has been pretty eye-opening and a good way to start my day.

By the time that I’m done dropping off at school and going for my walk, I have about four hours to myself on Mondays and Fridays. Some weeks I might still work on those days, too, but I’m hoping to give myself at least one day each week where I don’t work. This will give me time to do some housekeeping, literally and figuratively.

I put off a lot of things this past year, knowing that I would have some time during the school year to myself, and I’m trying not to be overwhelmed by all that I had hoped to do.

Blogging is one of the things that I’d like to get back into my daily or weekly rhythm. I also hope that my self-care time will go beyond just walking in the mornings, and will develop into strength training.

On Tuesdays through Thursdays, I will hopefully still fit in my walk and then go straight to work (either remotely or in-office) after dropping off the girls in the morning. I will leave work in time to pick them both up as well. This is something I’m super grateful for in this season. I love being there for them in this way!

I know it’s just the second week, but I can already see how we are slowly settling into this new rhythm and routine.

With gratitude.
