My House is a Wreck

Can I just start by saying, nothing beats the feeling of having your 7 month old fall asleep in your arms; especially when she has refused to do so since she was about 4 months old. While I am thankful that our Piper loves to be put down and left alone to fall asleep, that feeling of having her asleep in my arms was absolute bliss.

This weekend was an absolute blast! Even though I ended up getting a little sick weekend (sore throat -- yuck), by the end of it, my husband and I were agreeing; we really took full advantage of our first summer with Piper! (P.S. Piper seems to be feeling a little better from her stuffy nose. I'll take being sick over her being sick any day!)

We've done so much with her this summer, maybe even more than we would have if it were just the two of us. We've gone to the beach a few times, we took her to her first baseball game, we went to at least 3 car shows, we have gone on countless walks at the park and all around, we have gone raspberry picking, and blueberry picking, we went to an amusement park and more! Summer with an infant has been so much fun!

Since we've been having so much fun, our yard is an absolute wreck from neglect, our laundry has only been caught up a couple times since May, there are little (okay -- big) dust bunnies of dog hair on the floors, and there are almost always dirty dishes in the sink. Our priorities have been to get out and play this summer. We've got all winter to clean the house, right?

Here are some pictures of us getting out and playing this weekend:

Having a clean house is nice, but having memories from our first summer together as a family of 3... that's way more important to me.

Readers, what have been some of your favorite memories from this summer?

The Stars Aligned

On Wednesday, the stars aligned and I got in a good nap time workout. The baby was asleep, the chores were caught up (for the most part) and I had the energy to just go for it! I was able to walk (and run a lap) on the treadmill for about 35 minutes until Piper woke up. And boy, did it feel good when I was done!

Piper wasn't sick at the time, but I knew something was up because she had been taking a few extra long naps the two days prior. Now we're on day two of congestion, runny nose, and little sleep. Thankfully, it still seems to be above the neck. I'm not too worried as long as it stays there (and of course, starts getting better). Our neighbor told us that their two kids would always get stuffy and runny noses when their top teeth were coming in. Well, Piper's top teeth have been trying to come in for a while now, so that may be the culprit. Teething just got another strike in my book. I'm not a fan.

Today is Friday and so I will be working on a lot of orders from our Etsy shop, Anything Rustic, today. We have been getting consistent orders each week! I couldn't be happier about the extra income. Since I am a stay-at-home mom, every little bit helps! I have set aside Tuesdays and Fridays for production days (during Piper's naps, and a little bit while she is awake and playing by my side). So far, it has been working nicely! Since I work on these orders from home, the lines of working and home life easily began to blend (and not in a good way). Now that I have set times to work on my orders, I feel much more productive when I work!

last night's dinner - shrimp stir fry over noodles

I checked the scale this morning and I am down a couple pounds from last week! I went from 241 to 238 lbs. I've lost 7 pounds in two weeks! I am so excited about that. My new goals have been working great! I've been drinking more water; eating more homemade meals; exercising more, and; I have been holding myself accountable through the good and the bad. I am happy with my progress!

Happy Friday, readers!

Piper May Be Sick

I believe I have what is the beginning of a sick baby on my hands. Piper was up in the middle of the night crying, gulping and having trouble breathing through her nose. She woke up this morning congested, and just overall sad. This is breaking my momma heart, bad.

If this is the beginning of a cold for my sweet Piper, I don't really know what to expect. Momma-mode is on the double right now, so I must get back to my girl. I will leave you now with some pictures from yesterday.

Readers, any advice for me?

First Day of Kindergarten

My little brother was dropped off at my house after school yesterday. It was his first day of kindergarten! He had a great day at school, and a great time at my house afterward. He did a color activity and played with Piper. It was a good time!

After Evan left, my husband and I ate dinner. I made a really healthy dinner for us: Tilapia with fresh garlic and cayenne pepper and a side of brussels sprouts. It was really good and good for us!

If I would have ended the day with that dinner, yesterday would have been a super success as far as staying within my calorie range. However, since I have been keeping track of my calorie intake this week, I have been way outside of my ranges.

Monday: 2,333 calories
Tuesday: 2,306 calories

The 2,300 range is a good one for maintaining my weight, but that's not what I am going for right now. I want to lose it, and so I need to aim better for around 1,600 - 1,800 calories these first few weeks. The night snacking has been ruining it for me, again. There were a couple really indulgent treats in my house leftover from a visit from my in-laws earlier this week. Now that those are gone, I know I'm going to do better today!

Readers, how is your week going so far?

Piper's First Beach Trip

Summer vacation may be over, but as I've said before, summer isn't really over until it's too chilly for beach visits. We just love watching the sunset over the water and digging our feet in the sand!

Piper visited the beach for the first time this summer. It was an experience we'll never forget! This post is very picture-heavy, so I'll let the photos do most of the talking.

The first time her feet touched the sand was memorable. She looked back at the water, and then down at the sand, and then back at the water. She looked at me and whimpered with worry. Sort of like she was saying, "What is this?!" It didn't take her too long, though, to figure out this was a very special place to be.

Places that we use to go have transformed into magical places when we take Piper with us. She shows us the beauty in everything; things as big as the lake and as small as the shells in the sand. They are equally beautiful and awe-inspiring to Piper. When we leave these places, they are forever changed for us because she was there, and we were able to see from her perspective. She is one amazing little girl!

Last Day of Summer Vacay

Today is officially the last day of summer vacation!

While the end of summer vacation would usually be a sad thing, I am actually very excited about the start of something new. Tomorrow, I begin watching my little brother after school. The bus will drop him off at my house around 3:45 and he will get picked up by our parents at 5:45. Piper is going to love having Uncle Evan visit her each day! She thinks he is so funny (because is really is funny). We are going to have so much fun!

As I declared this weekend, I am cleaning up my act this week. Here are the things I'm working on/doing differently this week:

1. Using Motivational Pictures. I changed my desktop background to a picture of myself from when I felt super comfortable in my body. I wasn't much lighter on the scale in that picture, however; I was down in inches and just felt healthy!

2. I am going to take new "Before" pictures. It's not something I want to do, but I think it will help. I have "before" pictures from when I was around 270 pounds and even though I am 30 pounds down from that, I feel the same way I was feeling. My knees hurt when I walk down the stairs; I feel bloated all the time; I am not comfortable in my clothes, etc. If I want this to be a fresh start, I need to treat it like one.

3. I am going to post my daily calories from the week, by the end of the week. Simple as that. Accountability should help keep me on track!

4. I am going to exercise at least 3 times this week. Nothing is going to change if I don't stick to my plans.

5. I am going to drink at least 96 ounces of water each day. This is less of a goal as I started with, but it may be more achievable right now. Setting unrealistic goals for myself is not motivating. This week is about motivation -- getting it back, and keeping it near.

Here's the beginning of it all!

Calories for Monday:

Breakfast: 352 calories
Coffee with creamer
1/2 Bagel sandwich with cream cheese and sausage

You can check in with my tracking daily by following this link, or check back later this week for the full rundown!

Readers, what goal are you keeping in mind today? What are you looking forward to this week?

Major Setback with Goals

This past week I had a minor major setback when it comes to, well... everything to do with my August goals.

I had my monthly visitor (who had been two months late) finally come to visit. Just like that, gone went 1 1/2 sleeves of snickers fun size bars (count: 9) while lounging in comfy pants one evening. Wacky hormones and little self control teamed up hard this week. Needless to say, tracking my calories didn't happen as much as it should have; exercise didn't happen as much as it should have, and; drinking 120 ounces of water each day didn't happen, either.

Instead of ignoring what happened, I had to share it, so now I am held accountable and can move forward.

Blog post from this day can be found: here.

Things I am doing differently next week:

1. Using Motivational Pictures. I changed my desktop background to a picture of myself from when I felt super comfortable in my body. I wasn't much lighter on the scale in that picture, however; I was down in inches and just felt healthy!

Bring on the School Year

This was my last week of "summer". School is back in session on Tuesday and while that usually wouldn't effect me at all, it will! My daughter, Piper, is only 7 months old (TODAY! Ah! Update coming soon!), however; my little brother, Evan, will be getting dropped off at my house every day after kindergarten this year. He is so excited to ride the bus, and it just so happens that our grandpa is his bus driver! Gosh, I just love our small town.

Usually the end of summer is a drag, but I am really looking forward to the start of school! I can't wait to get into a new routine (and make a little extra money each week, too). I think it will be so good for Piper to have a visit from her Uncle Evan each day. She is at the perfect age to have a playmate during the day (other than myself), showing her new things (good and bad, I'm sure) and helping teach her how to play with others. This is going to be great for Evan, too. I know some days are bound to be tough (with a 5 year old and an infant), but all I can really think about is all the fun we're going to have! Bring on the school year!

P.S. Summer isn't really over for us. As long as it's warm, the sun is shining and we are still able to put our feet in the sand -- summer's here to stay!

Piper + Peas

Yesterday, Piper tried peas for the first time.

After a few bites of peas, Piper has decided they are at the bottom of her favorite food list, right above avocados, and below all the rest.

As you can tell from her very first bites, she is fairly willing (so far) to give each new food the benefit of the doubt, but when it came down to the end of the bowl, she was totally over the peas. The taste just wasn't changing, and she wasn't digging it.

Here's a video of some of her first bites:

Peas, all mashed up, aren't her favorite by any means. Maybe she'll learn to love them when she can eat them whole!
