February Family Day Vlog

Messing Up + Being Consistent

Hey everyone and happy Wednesday! I am so happy to share that we are all finally feeling better here! It's been a rough start to 2019 as far as getting sick and then sick and then sick again but, we are well now! Give me a minute while I go knock on wood.

February kind of went by like a blur for us. I can't believe that March begins this Friday! I am so ready for it because that means we are just that much closer to SPRING! Bring on the Spring! I am ready to get outside and enjoy nature again!

This month posed a lot of different challenges for me as far living out the healthier lifestyle that I am always working toward improvement on. I celebrated my birthday at the beginning of the month, then it was Valentine's day, then we all got sick and I didn't want to cook and we ordered out a lot. I mean, we had Chinese food (a few times), McDonald's, we went out for Italian food. We ate out a lot in this short month! Thankfully, I started reeling things back toward the end of this month and it looks like I will still be ending the month with a small loss on the scale!

If anything, I wanted to mention all of the challenges and the ways we "messed up" this month because it still goes to show that just because you "mess up" (and say, get Chinese take-out twice in one week), doesn't mean that you should give up! 

My motto for this season: Consistency is not never messing up; it's never giving up!

I have been making some small changes that have been adding up lately, as well. This past Sunday, I stopped by the drive-thru at Wendy's and instead of ordering a cheeseburger meal, I picked a salad. They have some of the best salads for a fast food chain!

It's small choices like this that add up over time so, even if I did eat Chinese food twice in one week earlier this month, I have the opportunity each day to make small choices that add up and eventually overrule the not-so-great choices! The proof will be on the scale! I'll be weighing in tomorrow for my final weigh-in of the month and soon I'll be sharing my total weight lost in 2019, thus far!

A February Adventure

Hello everyone! I am feeling much better today! I am so happy to be able to sit up without feeling dizzy and walk around without feeling incredibly weak this morning. The 24 hr. stomach flu sure was a doozy!

In between being sick with one thing and then another, there was one really wonderful day that I have been meaning to share about here; mostly so I don't ever forget.

Last Friday, my husband took the day off from work so we could just hang out. I usually struggle with feeling kind of low this time of year (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and so, this was a real treat for him to stay home and make it a long weekend for us together.

After we dropped Piper off at preschool, we went to get some coffee's at the gas station and then we drove around some back roads. It turned out to be such a nice day! It was chilly but sunny. We stopped at a creek access and then the bluffs. It felt so good to be by the water.

We kept driving down the seaway trail and made a couple more stops along the way. We had the best morning - just driving around, chatting and exploring.

I am so grateful for this man and the little adventures that we've shared.

Can't Catch a Break

I can't seem to catch a break. First it was acute bronchitis, then it was some kind of sinus cold thing and now, it's the stomach flu. I am weak. I am weary. I am sad. I am sick. I can't wait to feel like "me" again!

The few days leading up to the stomach flu, I was doing fairly well eating within my nutritional range and getting water in. I was still sick with whatever sinus cold I had but, I pushed through and tried to stick to my goals despite not feeling well. Today, as I recovered from the stomach bug, I ate minimally, of course. I drank about 64 oz. of gatorade and finally ate my first meal of the day at dinner. All seems to be digesting well. Let's hope I am on the mend!

Poor Piper had this stomach bug first. She got sick at church on Sunday and stayed on the couch the rest of the day. She seemed to be doing much better on Monday and so, I hope I will be doing much better tomorrow, myself.

I feel like I haven't been well since last year. Yes, I am feeling quite dramatic about it. I can say that I haven't been well since last year because it's only February and, because it's pretty much true. I think I had about a week or so at the beginning of February where I felt well between all of the different illnesses I've endured. I am officially done with winter and done with all of the sickness.

Six Months Later VLOG

Still sick over here. I've been down for the count today. Since I have been resting a lot, I have had some extra time to throw a VLOG together. I recorded some footage earlier in the month and finally got around to editing it.

I can't believe it's been six months since I've shared a vlog on my YouTube channel. I think I am going to try to update at least once per month.

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

I don't work on Wednesdays and so I have noticed that if I have not been on track for the days leading up to it, Wednesday usually serves as my reset day where I try to get back on track. This is definitely the case, today!

I've come to find that Valentine's week is always a little challenging when you're trying to lose weight. Yesterday, I had the most amazing cupcake at the office and, I really have no regrets about that. Haha.

I haven't been feeling great this week. I finally got over my acute bronchitis just long enough to get sick with something else. I have some congestion and a sore throat. I am just so tired of being sick and tired. It's been a little discouraging.

Another discouragement has really just been the weather lately. This week we had freezing rain, some tremendous winds and now it's looking like we are getting a little snow storm on top of it all. It is February 13th and I am officially over winter. The snow is beautiful but, I really miss the warm weather summer brings.

I'm not big on sharing the discouragements but, it definitely is part of life. This time of year can be especially hard for me because it's around this time that I notice the intense effects of Seasonal Affective Disorder. It's hard to be motivated this time of year but, this is the time when I need to just keep pressing on. 

I know this week is filled with cupcakes, candy and chocolate. I know that I will (and have) indulge in these things. I also know that while it might affect the scale for a short period, that is okay. I will get back on track. I will feel better soon.

Piper's 4th Birthday Party: Wreck-It Ralph + Arcade Themed

Piper turned 4 last month and we celebrated with a "Wreck-It Ralph" theme at a local arcade! Piper came up with the theme all on her own and we had a lot of fun bringing it to life for her!

Having the party at a local arcade was fun for both the kids that came and for the adults!

Piper is such a bright and compassionate little girl. She is a great conversationalist and, she is a free-spirit. We encourage her in all the "weird" things she enjoys. She's a girl that wants to be a superhero when she grows up. She loves to collect bar soap and she knows a lot about bugs. She loves Jesus and prays with such great intention. She prays for the big things and little things. She gives thanks to God for her family, friends and teachers. She give thanks to God for her brain, skin and bones. We love her for all that she is and, all that she will become. She is truly amazing to us. We thank God for allowing us to be her parents every day!

New Water Bottle + Scale Accountability

Hey everyone and happy Wednesday! Earlier this week, I turned 31. I didn't really want to celebrate my birthday but, my husband got me a little gift anyway.

It was actually the perfect gift. He gave me a new water bottle that holds up to 40 oz. of water and so now I only have to fill the bottle 3 times each day to reach my water goal! He really surprised me because I hadn't even mentioned wanting a new water bottle to him. He's just so great!

Speaking of my water goal, I have been doing a decent job at reaching it lately. If not reaching it completely, I have gotten close enough most days which really helps! I haven't been the best at tracking my nutrition during this first week of February and so making sure I get enough water seems to  help balance all of that out.

This month, I will be doing weekly weigh-in's on Friday. Last Friday was the first day of February and I weighed in at 237.4 lbs. I checked this morning, mid-week, and I am at 237.8 lbs. I am glad that I checked the scale a couple days early because now I am motivated to start tracking my nutrition again. It's easy to slip out of routine and the accountability of the scale has been nice enough to bring me back on track!
